Popular Nigerian media personality Danny Walter has shared a deep and personal reflection about his faith, money, and life struggles, sparking widespread conversations online. The outspoken influencer revealed that his decision to stop attending church between 2020 and 2021 did not negatively impact his life, despite common expectations that leaving the church would invite misfortune.
According to him, he had deliberately taken a break from religious gatherings to test if his life would worsen, but instead, he found that nothing changed for the worse. Walter explained that while many people attribute success to divine grace, he personally does not hold the same belief.

He also took time to clarify certain controversies that once trailed his comments, particularly those involving media personality Toke Makinwa. Walter stated that his words were often taken out of context and misinterpreted as personal attacks, when in reality, he had only been making general references using names that were already popular in media narratives.
His take on money, struggles, and exposure
Danny Walter went further to speak on the realities of wealth and how it affects human behavior. In his words, money does not change people, but rather exposes the “real” version of who they have always been. He explained that poverty often suppresses certain behaviors, but once wealth comes in, it brings out the part of an individual that had been hidden.
Walter opened up about experiencing serious financial setbacks, including losing multiple brand deals in just 24 hours. He revealed that after the deals ended, new contracts stopped coming in, leaving him searching for other sources of income. Things got even worse in 2022, when he reportedly lost almost $500,000 in Bitcoin trading in a single night, describing it as one of the darkest financial moments of his life.
Despite the harsh setbacks, Walter insisted that he has no regrets and continues to live authentically. He noted that people who truly understand him have remained supportive, while critics often focus only on headlines and misconceptions. To him, the support of those who genuinely know him outweighs the noise of detractors.
Walter’s exact words
He said: “I’m not the rich person that i’ll tell you is god’s grace. There’s nothing like god’s grace with me. I told myself in 2020, 2021 that I’m going to stop church for a year. If my life gets worse, I’m okay. But I stopped church and my life didn’t get worse. I don’t have any regrets. I feel like the people who understand me, understands me and that’s enough. All the headlines were using Toke Makinwa and other people, so when I wanted to make reference to that event, I used Toke Makinwa and others too. So in all sense, it felt like I was going after Toke Makinwa and that wasn’t the case.
“What money does is, it doesn’t change you, it just brings out the inner you — the you that poverty was hiding. Coming from poverty, you feel the need to show people that, look, I’ve left this level. I lost a lot of deals at the same time, like 24 hours. So after I lost all the brand deals, no other brand was giving me deals. I had to look for somewhere else to make money because I was spending money and new money wasn’t coming in. Bitcoin crashed in 2022 and I was trading with a lot of money, almost $500,000 at the time. And you know, I lost it in one night. If I had made that post on social media that I lost this amount of money, people would say ‘God has punished you, God don catch you.’”
His candid confession has since gone viral, sparking intense reactions about religion, money, and personal conviction.
