“I never thought I would be 40-something and not be married. Maybe that’s the one I lost. If it comes, it comes. If it doesn’t, I’m totally fine,” he confessed, adding that although marriage is something he once envisioned for himself, he has made peace with his current reality.

Career over marriage

Don Jazzy admitted that his undivided focus on building a music empire, mentoring young talents, and creating timeless hits may have played a role in why he remained single into his 40s. Despite this, he expressed no regrets, noting that his passion and dedication have brought him immense fulfillment.

His record label, Mavin Records, has been responsible for launching the careers of some of Africa’s biggest stars, including Tiwa Savage, Rema, and Ayra Starr, solidifying his legacy as one of the most influential figures in African music.

When asked what path he might have taken had he not become a music executive, Don Jazzy replied that he would still have likely been involved in music in one form or another. Alternatively, he believes he might have excelled as a social media influencer, given his love for connecting with fans and entertaining audiences online.

A look back at Don Jazzy’s short-lived marriage

Before his meteoric rise to fame, Don Jazzy was briefly married in his early twenties. In 2003, while living in London, he married Michelle Jackson, a model and writer. Unfortunately, the union was short-lived and ended in divorce after just two years.

In past interviews, Don Jazzy has explained that his burning passion for music and his relentless drive to build a career left him little room to sustain family life. However, he has consistently spoken fondly of Michelle, describing her as a “beautiful soul” and confirming that they remain on good terms despite their separation.

Ultimately, Don Jazzy’s revelations highlight the delicate balance between personal life and professional ambition, and while he may not have the marriage he once envisioned, he remains one of Africa’s most celebrated and fulfilled music icons.
