In the conversation, Laide Bakare disclosed that she personally took Similoluwa to a nightclub when she turned 17 and even allowed her to have a taste of alcohol. According to her, this was not an act of irresponsibility but a way of preparing her daughter for adulthood and ensuring that she learned how to navigate the realities of life under her own watchful guidance. She explained that she believes it is better for young people to experience certain aspects of life in the presence of their parents rather than being exposed to them recklessly on their own.

However, her revelation immediately sparked outrage on social media, with many Nigerians labeling her actions as careless parenting. Critics accused Bakare of reinforcing negative stereotypes about “single mothers” being unable to raise children properly. Others argued that exposing a teenager to the clubbing lifestyle at such an early age could lead to negative long-term consequences. The backlash quickly went viral, prompting the actress to clarify her statements.

Reacting to the uproar, Laide Bakare took to Instagram where she shared a video from her daughter’s birthday afterparty. In her post, she firmly denied ever giving her daughter alcohol and insisted that her comments were twisted out of context. She explained that what actually happened was that Similoluwa had her first club experience with her mother during her birthday celebration, but she never said she introduced her to drinking. She wrote: “Let me mention clearly here that I never said I introduced my daughter, @simlineboss, to alcohol. I only stated that she entered a club with me for the very first time in her life at her birthday afterparty. How is that bad naw?”

In another post, the actress doubled down on her defense, writing: “No please, I didn’t do alcohol with @simlineboss, only club, and it’s just to give her a bit of exposure towards the future. I’m not as bad as you think.” She argued that she was only fulfilling her responsibility as a mother by guiding her daughter into adulthood in her own unique way.

Despite her clarifications, the matter has continued to stir heated arguments online. While some fans applauded her for being open, protective, and transparent about guiding her daughter, others strongly condemned her methods, insisting that clubbing was not an appropriate way to prepare a teenager for adulthood. The controversy has sparked wider conversations on parenting, exposure, and cultural values in Nigeria.
