Social media influencer and entrepreneur, May Edochie, has shared a touching story about how she first met her estranged husband, popular Nollywood actor Yul Edochie.
Speaking in detail during a recent lifestyle podcast, May took listeners down memory lane, revealing that their encounter happened years before fame, marriage, and public attention ever came into the picture. According to her, their first meeting occurred at a General Certificate Examination (GCE) centre during her early days at the university.
May recalled that at the time, she had just relocated from Lagos to begin her studies at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), while Yul was already a student at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT).
Sharing more details about her mindset back then, May described herself as a focused and academically driven young woman who had little interest in social activities. She said her main concern at that stage of life was her education and personal growth rather than romance or fame.
In her words: “Way back in school when I went to the East for my university, I’ve always been a bookworm. It’s always been about books and building my future for me. We didn’t meet at a party or any glamorous setting — it was at a GCE centre. I was focused on my exams, and that was where our paths crossed.”
May went on to reflect on how their early friendship eventually blossomed into a relationship that led to marriage and family life before their well-publicized separation. She expressed gratitude for the lessons learned through the journey, emphasizing that every experience — good or bad — contributed to shaping the strong, independent woman she is today.
The mother of three further noted that while life has taken unexpected turns, she continues to stay focused on her children, her brand, and her personal development, maintaining that peace, self-respect, and purpose now define her life more than anything else.
