Mr Joseph Aloba, father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has officially petitioned the Lagos State Government, expressing strong dissatisfaction over what he describes as unnecessary delays in prosecuting individuals indicted in connection with his son’s tragic death.

The petition, which was personally addressed to the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), was signed and submitted through Aloba’s counsel, Wahab Shittu (SAN). In the document, Mr Aloba pleaded for immediate action against his son’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, and others identified by the Coroner’s Inquest as being culpable in Mohbad’s sudden demise.

Specifically, the petition emphasized the role of Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered an injection to Mohbad on the day of his death in September 2023. According to the petition, the nurse acted in a manner deemed “unlawful and professionally negligent” as confirmed by the Coroner’s Inquest, which ruled that she gave the injection without a doctor’s prescription, thereby violating medical standards.

The petition further demanded that others present at Mohbad’s residence during the incident—particularly those who invited the nurse or failed to arrange emergency medical care—should also face legal accountability. Mr Aloba argued that their actions and inactions contributed directly to the unfortunate outcome.

The letter cited in detail the Coroner’s verdict delivered in July 2025 by Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi, which clearly indicted the nurse and highlighted gross negligence. However, despite the findings, Aloba and his legal team lamented that over two months have passed without any visible prosecutorial steps taken by the Lagos State Government.

“Our client, as a grieving father who has watched his family suffer irreparable loss, is deeply worried by the silence and lack of prosecutorial action. Despite the clarity of the Coroner’s ruling, no step has been initiated since July 11, 2025, to bring the indicted parties to justice,” the petition read in part.

In his demand, Wahab Shittu (SAN) urged the Attorney-General to ensure prosecution begins within the next 14 days, stressing that the case carries enormous public interest and emotional sensitivity. He also pointed out that failure to prosecute could further erode public trust in the justice system, given the massive public outcry surrounding Mohbad’s death since September 2023.

Furthermore, the petition requested that if the state government fails to initiate criminal proceedings, the Attorney-General should legally authorise Mr Aloba’s legal team to pursue private prosecution on behalf of the state under the provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State. This, according to Shittu, would ensure that justice is not delayed indefinitely and that those responsible for Mohbad’s death face the full weight of the law.

Mr Joseph Aloba concluded by reaffirming his commitment to fight for justice in memory of his late son, stressing that the truth must prevail and that accountability should be enforced without favoritism or political interference.
