Popular Nigerian street-hop singer Mr Real has opened up about a major regret in his music career, revealing that his decision to feature fellow artist Idowest on his breakout hit, Legbegbe, may have limited the song’s reach and his overall career trajectory.
In a recent interview, the singer candidly admitted that if he had released the record as a solo track, it could have changed his life completely, possibly placing him on the same global pedestal as Afrobeat giants like Wizkid and Burna Boy.
According to Mr Real, Legbegbe had the potential to transcend the streets and dominate the mainstream both locally and internationally, but certain choices made during its rollout held him back from fully capitalizing on its massive popularity.
Wizkid’s interest in the remix
Mr Real further revealed a surprising detail: Wizkid had once reached out to him, expressing interest in doing a remix of *Legbegbe*. However, the collaboration never materialized due to what Mr Real described as industry complications, allegedly tied to his dealings with veteran singer D’banj.

He lamented that the missed opportunity with Wizkid was a huge blow to his career, stressing that such a remix could have propelled Legbegbe into an even bigger anthem on the international scene. The singer added that it remains one of his biggest career regrets.
*Legbegbe*, released in 2017, was one of the biggest street anthems of its time. It not only dominated the airwaves but also solidified Mr Real’s presence in Nigeria’s music industry. However, he now believes the song’s full potential was never realized, largely due to the circumstances surrounding its release and promotion.
Speaking in detail, Mr Real said …
[/p]“I regret bringing Idowest into that song. I regret am. I wish say na only me sing that song. If say na only me sing that song na me and their Burna Boy and Wizkid for dey. Shay you know say Wizkid come for remix of Legbegbe. This one wey I dey tell you na exclusive. Wizkid called for the remix of Legbegbe. This thing no happen, all because of D’banj…”
Beef with D’banj
This revelation also ties into his long-standing issue with D’banj. In a recent Gistreel report, Mr Real accused the veteran singer of exploiting him during their two-year working relationship. According to him, despite all his efforts and loyalty, he only received a meagre $500 in return, an experience that left him bitter and feeling used.
The street-hop star believes these setbacks contributed to why his career didn’t soar as high as it should have, despite the massive success of Legbegbe.
