Popular South African TV personality and rapper Nadia Nakai, who was once in a relationship with the late award-winning hip-hop star AKA, has revealed that she will never date another rapper again. The media host made this revelation while reflecting on her past relationship and the painful experience of losing a partner who was constantly in the public eye.
Speaking candidly, Nadia admitted that being in a relationship with someone famous often meant sharing personal joy and heartbreak with the entire world. She explained that she no longer desires such exposure, noting that the grief she went through after AKA’s tragic death was made even harder by the public’s attention and endless scrutiny.

Nadia opens up on future relationships
In her heartfelt statement, Nadia Nakai stressed that she intends to keep her next relationship extremely private, away from the spotlight of the entertainment industry. According to her, she no longer wants to explain her personal pain to strangers, deal with unsolicited comments online, or live through the emotional rollercoaster of public grief should tragedy strike again.
She revealed in an interview with Fresh Men Magazine: “I will never date another rapper or anyone in the [entertainment] industry again. That part of my life is closed. I want my next relationship to be quiet, very private, and far away from the public eye. Losing AKA was painful enough, but what made it worse was having to explain my grief to strangers at airports and people on social media. That is something I do not want to repeat.”
Remembering AKA’s tragic death
Her late boyfriend, Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA, was shot and kil.led on February 10, 2023, outside a popular restaurant in Durban, South Africa. He had been scheduled to perform at a nightclub later that night. CCTV footage showed two unidentified gunmen approaching him and opening fire at close range as he stepped outside with friends.
The brutal murder, which authorities suspect to be a targeted assas.sination, shocked fans across Africa and beyond, leaving the music industry in mourning. Investigations have since led to multiple arrests, but the tragic incident continues to cast a shadow on South Africa’s entertainment scene.
For Nadia, the devastating loss reshaped her outlook on love and relationships. While she continues to honor AKA’s memory, she firmly believes that her personal happiness and peace now depend on keeping her private life away from the limelight.
