Controversial Nigerian street singer, Habeeb Okikiola, widely recognized as Portable, has once again ignited conversations across social media with a bold statement regarding his political stance ahead of the 2027 general elections. Known for his outspoken personality and unpredictable declarations, the singer revealed in a newly released video that his political support will not be driven by ideology, party loyalty, or manifestos, but rather by financial incentives from candidates.

In the Instagram video that has since gone viral, Portable openly declared that his endorsement in 2027 will be sold to the highest bidder. He explained that his loyalty would go to whichever presidential aspirant — be it Peter Obi, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — “drops money” for him first. According to him, the reality of Nigeria’s economy and his own struggles justify such a decision. He stressed that he cannot afford to campaign or support anyone while going hungry, hence his new standard for political endorsements.

“My fans, vote whoever you want. It was before I was saying otherwise. I will only vote for anyone who gives me money for the 2027 elections. Whoever drops money first between Peter Obi and Tinubu or PDP is the one I will endorse, and I will make sure my fans vote for him. I can’t go about hungry; vote for your helper,” Portable said in the video, sparking mixed reactions among Nigerians.

Portable’s Political Affiliations and Past Encounters

This latest outburst is not Portable’s first time making headlines over politics. The singer had earlier recounted his disappointment with the Labour Party’s Peter Obi after a meeting in Benin City, Edo State. Portable revealed that unlike President Tinubu, who he claims once supported him financially, Obi only offered him a handshake during their encounter. The singer said this left him unimpressed, especially since he was flying in first class at the time while Obi was seated in economy.

In contrast, Portable has praised the Tinubu family, particularly Seyi Tinubu, the President’s son, for what he described as life-changing support. In July, he shared videos of himself with Seyi Tinubu and went as far as assuring Nigerians that the Tinubu administration would bring about positive change, a statement that drew both applause and criticism from fans and political observers.

Given his track record, Portable’s claim that his endorsement is for sale has only reinforced perceptions of him as an entertainer whose political alignment is fluid, driven more by personal gain than by principles or long-term commitments.

Public Reactions to Portable’s 2027 Election Stand

Nigerians on social media have wasted no time in reacting to the singer’s controversial position. For some, Portable’s words are merely a reflection of his comedic and unfiltered nature, while others see it as an unfortunate mirror of a broader societal problem — the monetization of politics.

tobathenurse wrote, “Portable has campaigned for APC, PDP and Accord party. A true definition of a non-partisan Nigerian, anywhere money drop 😂😂😂.”

finkventures commented: “Shishi you no go see for Peter Obi hand.”

BetwizadTips lamented: “This Weyrey is part of the reasons Nigeria is in a mess 🤦🏽‍♂️.”

ivoh_ivoh added: “The exact mindset of all the Tinubu supporters. Just empty heads with large followers, look at them and you will agree with me.🤣”

Meekofweb3 noted: “How much is our own share if they give you money? You can’t endorse any candidate for anyone this coming election. Nigerians will decide.”

While some dismissed his statements as a mere publicity stunt to remain in the spotlight, others warned that such comments, if taken seriously by politicians, could undermine the credibility of democratic processes in Nigeria. Regardless, Portable’s words have once again positioned him at the center of political and social debates as the 2027 elections draw closer.
