A young lady has taken to social media to passionately lament about the high and steadily rising cost of men’s clothes in today’s market, wondering aloud why most men appear calm and unbothered despite how outrageous the situation has become.
In a now viral video, she shared her personal encounter while trying to purchase some outfits for her partner. According to her, the prices of men’s wear have skyrocketed beyond reason, yet men seem to have accepted the reality without raising their voices or making any complaints.
She expressed her frustration, saying: “To be very honest, e get something wey I don noticed and it’s very very critical. Men, una clothe is very expensive ooh. It’s too much. And you people are not saying anything, it seems some of you are very comfortable about it.”
Although she did not specifically outline what actions men should take, she insisted that the silence is encouraging sellers to continue increasing prices. She warned that if men do not rise up to challenge the trend, the market will continue to exploit them, making clothing almost unaffordable.
In her words, she continued: “Very soon una go make am be like say na woman be una problem, but truth be told, you people are your own problem. Why is your clothe too expensive like that? And yet una no dey talk.”
The lady revealed that her shock deepened when she discovered that ordinary shirts are now being sold for as much as ₦200,000 or even ₦300,000, amounts she described as completely unreasonable and beyond the reach of many average Nigerians.
She further argued that the inflation in men’s clothing could also explain why most women, when shopping for their partners’ birthdays or special occasions, often end up buying only singlets, boxers, and socks. According to her, those are the only items that fall within an affordable range for many women, and men should not complain since the bigger outfits have become excessively priced.
Her video quickly went viral, drawing widespread reactions from Nigerians. While many agreed with her and admitted that men’s clothing has indeed become unaffordable in many boutiques and online stores, others countered that men have long adapted to the reality and prefer to quietly deal with it rather than complain publicly.
The discussion has since fueled debates about consumer pricing, fashion industry standards, and how cultural perceptions influence men’s shopping habits compared to women’s. For some, her message was a humorous but valid reminder that men’s silence may be indirectly fueling the rising costs in the market.
