A Nigerian man, identified on X as Chigozie Allen, has shared a distressing account of how thieves invaded his home and stole his personal electronic gadgets while he was asleep, sparking widespread discussion online about home security and personal safety.

Chigozie explained that after returning exhausted from work, he had plugged his phone, tablet, and laptop to charge overnight. Unfortunately, he awoke to the shocking discovery that all the items had been stolen, leaving him heartbroken and frustrated.

He added that the gadgets were charging near a window, which the thieves exploited by tearing through the net and curtain, carefully dragging the devices outside without waking him up.

Detailed account of the theft

In a post shared on X, Chigozie described the ordeal: “Phone, laptop, tablet all gone during charging just like that because of a few hours’ sleep after work at night. Curtains moved, window net torn. Slept with this phone using to tweet. If not…”

He continued, “Gadgets not close to window, just shattered completely. I was fast asleep after work, was exhausted. If you open the window & curtains, you will see the gadgets charging but it’s far only if something long was used to drag it.”

Netizens express sympathy and caution

Following the post, netizens quickly expressed sympathy for Chigozie while also using the incident to highlight the risks of leaving valuable items near windows and the importance of securing homes against break-ins.

CriXubsDcreator commented: “Those guys dey use juju run ds stuff.. cos I wonder how they could move those gadgets without anyone waking.”

Goze_Graffix added: “I thought there was a viral tweet warning us not to keep our tools close to the windows. This is a serious reminder.”

footieverse_ advised: “It happened to me twice this year. Put off your light before you go to bed, they can’t take what they cannot see, don’t charge close to the windows. Also install an iron net if you can. Sorry for your loss. Luckily we caught them.”

Many other users echoed the warnings, emphasizing the need for extra vigilance, better home security measures, and awareness of the techniques thieves use to target unattended gadgets and electronics, especially during nighttime hours.

Chigozie’s experience serves as a cautionary tale for others, reinforcing that even brief moments of vulnerability can result in significant losses, and that preventive measures such as positioning gadgets away from accessible windows and using secure window nets can make a critical difference in safeguarding personal property.
